Physical Activity Motivation for Children
Why is it important for children to participate in physical activity?
"It is evident that school children do not engage in sufficient levels of physical activity (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], n.d.). This leads to a dramatic increase in the prevalence of obesity and diabetes among this population and causes health problems in their future" (GAO).
Who can motivate children to be active?
It is essential that physical educators emphasize the values of sport and physical education
How can we get children to be motivated to be physically active?
"Research has shown, students are motivated to engage in activities and achieve success when they believe they can accomplish the activities. Physical educators can and should help students maintain relatively accurate but high expectancy beliefs and help them avoid an illusion of incompetence. To achieve this, teachers and coaches should help students achieve success by keeping tasks at a relatively challenging but reasonable level of difficulty, providing accurate and timely feedback, and using models to provide vicarious experiences" (Gao).
Importance of team training?
"The present studies demonstrate that team sport training could improve physical function to the same extent as seen in duration- matched resistance training in children" (Pederson).
